Speech and hearing impaired Dalit minor raped in UP, accused arrested

A shocking incident of sexual assault has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur district, where an 11-year-old Dalit girl, who is speech and hearing impaired, was allegedly raped. The accused, identified as 24-year-old Dan Singh, a resident of the same village as the victim, was apprehended by police within 24 hours of the crime being reported. The young survivor was reportedly lured into a nearby forest, where the heinous act took place.

Prompt action was taken by the Rampur Police following the complaint filed by the girl's mother. Superintendent of Police Vidya Sagar Mishra stated that three dedicated police teams were immediately formed to locate the unidentified perpetrator. During the attempt to arrest Dan Singh, a dangerous situation unfolded. According to Mishra, the accused opened fire on the police with the intention to kill. In self-defense, the police retaliated, resulting in injuries to the accused, after which he was successfully taken into custody.

During the subsequent interrogation, Dan Singh, son of Harpal Singh, reportedly confessed to the crime. The police investigation further solidified their case against him through the collection of crucial evidence. This included electronic evidence and CCTV footage, which captured the accused approaching the young girl and leading her away from her known surroundings. This visual confirmation played a significant role in corroborating the victim's account and the accused's confession.

Tragically, the survivor sustained injuries during the assault and has been referred to Meerut Medical College for specialized medical treatment and care. Medical officials have confirmed the presence of injury marks on her body, underscoring the violence she endured.

In response to this grave crime, a case has been officially registered under the relevant sections of the law. This includes Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5m/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. These legal provisions address the specific nature of the crime and aim to ensure justice for the young victim.
